Dealing with bullying at work

Ways to Deal with Workplace Bullying

Workplace bullying can be handled by following these steps:

  • Keep evidence of the bullying incident whenever possible.

Document the incident in detail, including the date, time, and location, as well as witness statements if available. Keep any text or email messages related to the incident to make it easier to prove if needed.

  • Practice meditation and relaxation

Set aside regular time for yourself, almost daily, by practicing meditation to relieve work stress, develop self-control, boost self-confidence, and appreciate your body—through activities like yoga and other relaxation exercises.

  • Report the bullying incident

Report the incident to a higher-ranking employee or the HR department to address the issue immediately.

  • Boost self-confidence

Always maintain your appearance, practice good hygiene, wear neat clothes, and work on self-development by reading and learning in various fields. Express yourself positively and speak with confidence and strength to prevent the bully from using these aspects as weaknesses against you.

  • Avoid the bully

Avoid sitting alone with the bully or being in one-on-one situations. Refrain from engaging in arguments or conversations with them, and if necessary, remain calm and composed, resisting the urge to lose your temper.

  • Know the labor laws

Be fully aware of employee rights and seek legal assistance if any of these rights are violated.

  • Seek help and support

Ask for advice and guidance from relatives, friends, or family members, and consider consulting a psychologist to help you deal with the bully.
