Meditate and increase patience

The Relationship Between Meditation and Increasing Patience

How can meditation cultivate a stronger sense of patience? To answer this question, consider these important points that explain the nature of the relationship between meditation and increased patience:

  • Meditation Reduces Feelings of Stress

Meditation helps clear the mind from emotions and negative thoughts that trigger stress and anxiety about the present and the future. Regular meditation teaches you to better tolerate these feelings and control them in a healthy way, making you more resilient and patient when dealing with both challenging and simple situations alike.

  • Meditation Increases Tolerance Towards Others

There is no doubt that meditation is very important for self-acceptance, boosting self-confidence, and feeling gratitude toward yourself. When you forgive yourself, you can also forgive and be patient with those around you, accepting others as they are. This helps you build healthy and strong relationships through developing meditation practices and increasing patience.

  • Meditation Reduces Anger

You can practice meditation exercises to reduce feelings of anger and frustration, making you more patient and less reactive when handling situations that require thoughtfulness and calmness.

How to Reduce the Feeling of Losing Patience?

You might already have little to no patience in the simplest situations, but let me help you let go of this feeling from the start. Never focus too much on thinking about it so as not to increase your stress over your lack of patience. On the contrary, train yourself through meditation sessions to regain your patience in every situation in your life—for example, when dealing with coworkers through continuous breathing exercises, or in the way you eat by sitting calmly, relaxing, enjoying your food, and eating slowly. You will notice the reflection of stronger patience in your life naturally in all situations through your calm and balanced reactions.

A Meditation Exercise to Build Patience

Here is a simple exercise to increase the feeling of patience and inner balance by following these steps that combine meditation and patience:

  1. Sit upright in a quiet and comfortable place.
  2. Focus on every part of your body, on the air around you, and on the movement of your breath.
  3. Acknowledge the emotions that arise within you without denying or suppressing them at that moment, then return your focus to breathing.
  4. Be gentle with yourself, as you might feel some physical discomfort from sitting still for a while. Try to create a balance between being kind to yourself, taking care of yourself, and enduring this discomfort.
  5. Try to control the thoughts within you, whether they are about the past, present, or future.
  6. Shift your focus to your emotions and accept them, whether they are sadness, happiness, despair, or anxiety.
  7. Breathe deeply while focusing on your emotions and talk to yourself, saying for example, “I wish to feel grateful for every blessing in my life and to be happy in the future.” This encourages you to cultivate feelings of happiness and forgiveness toward yourself, and with repeated sessions, this practice becomes more natural and less effortful each time.
