Where Does Hope Come From?
The answer to this question is multifaceted, as there are many sources that give us hope. Among the most prominent of these sources is keeping the following in mind:
- The future is unknown: We don’t have to be happy all the time to have hope. It’s enough to recognize that the future is unknown and that we can play a role in making it positive by striving to achieve our goals and doing our best. Believing that what is happening to us now does not define our future—because the future is uncertain—can instill hope in our hearts.
- Beauty is everywhere: Beauty isn’t limited to appearance—kindness, good treatment, optimism, and contentment all represent forms of beauty surrounding us from every direction. Even if we seek physical beauty, we can look around at the beauty of flowers and nature and experience it. This in turn inspires a sense of hope and helps answer the question ‘Where does hope come from?’
- Change is very possible: The term neuroplasticity describes the brain’s ability to change in response to experiences and circumstances. This means that what may seem like a massive problem now could later be seen by our brains as a simple issue that can easily be overcome. This change doesn’t apply only to the brain—our lives and circumstances are constantly subject to change, and that’s the nature of life.
- Difficult situations have benefits: Who among us hasn’t faced tough times that revealed our strength, resilience, and ability to adapt? Many of us have discovered unknown skills during a crisis. Moreover, hardships reveal the true nature of those around us, helping us distinguish friend from foe—this alone can plant hope in our hearts.
It’s also worth mentioning that doing the following can help answer the question ‘Where does hope come from?’:
- Practicing meditation: Meditation helps us see the hope around us, and it also builds hope within us when we can’t see it. We remind you to download the Tawazon app, which contains comprehensive information about different types of meditation, along with a collection of guided meditations and podcasts you can enjoy.
- Making a list of things you’re grateful for: We often overlook the blessings we have, which can lead to a loss of hope. But when we create a list of some of these blessings—whether it’s good health, amazing friends, or something else—seeing that list from time to time reminds us of what we have and becomes a source of hope.
