Treatment methods are usually determined by a general physician in collaboration with a psychologist or psychiatrist, aiming to manage the symptoms of this condition. Treatment approaches can be divided as follows:

    • Medication: Medications are used to reduce the anxiety and depression symptoms associated with this disorder. The main category used is antidepressants.

  • Psychotherapy: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most effective psychological treatments for illness anxiety. It helps identify the thoughts that lead to illness-related fears and reframe the person’s interpretation of physical sensations as non-threatening.
  • Self-Care: This involves maintaining a healthy lifestyle to cope with psychological stress and reduce its negative impact. Key self-care practices include:
  1. Engaging in regular physical activity.
  2. Eating a healthy and balanced diet.
