Signs That You Sleep Well
If the following signs apply to you, then you’re someone who sleeps well:
-
Waking Up Without an Alarm
If you find it difficult to wake up in the morning without an alarm, or if you get out of bed reluctantly after hitting snooze multiple times, then it’s likely you didn’t get a good night’s sleep. One of the signs of good sleep is waking up feeling refreshed without needing loud alarms.
-
No Need for Caffeine Boosts
Poor sleep leads to drowsiness and fatigue throughout the day, pushing people to consume coffee, tea, or other sources of caffeine repeatedly just to stay alert. On the other hand, those who sleep well maintain high energy levels all day long.
-
Maintaining a Healthy Weight
Lack of sleep is linked to weight gain. If your weight is steadily increasing, it might be due to insufficient sleep. However, good sleep helps maintain a stable weight, as several weight-related hormones regulate better with adequate rest.
-
Good Mood
Sleep is closely tied to mood. When we get quality sleep, we tend to feel more optimistic and positive. In contrast, sleep deprivation causes a bad mood.
-
Craving Unhealthy Foods
Lack of sleep increases cravings for carbohydrate- and sugar-rich foods. When someone gets enough sleep, the hormones responsible for these cravings stabilize, and the desire for such foods decreases.
Tips for Getting Good Sleep
Here are some tips to help you get better sleep:
- Get exposure to bright light during the day and reduce it in the evening. This helps regulate your biological clock for restful sleep at night.
- Avoid caffeine 6–8 hours before bed. Ideally, stop consuming it by 3 or 4 PM.
- Make your bedroom dark, quiet, and slightly cool. Around 20°C (68°F) is ideal for most people.
- Don’t eat a large or heavy meal right before bed—but a light snack is okay.
- Practice evening meditation to clear your mind of lingering thoughts that cause insomnia. And don’t forget to download the Tawazon app to explore various meditations and insightful podcasts.
