Reflections on “Freedom from Trauma”

Do You Experience Post-Traumatic Symptoms?

Symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder vary from person to person. Some deny what is happening to them or avoid talking about it, while others isolate themselves and do not share their thoughts and feelings with anyone. However, hope for healing from trauma is very strong. With the advancement of science, societal progress, accumulated human experiences, and the emergence of many modern therapeutic specialties, there are now techniques we can rely on in many cases to ease pain and treat conditions. Besides medical methods, we must explore the depths of the psyche to find the inner strength humans possess to overcome their deep psychological traumas and reach a safe haven free from pain.

Although people sometimes hide their pain deep inside, they also harbor energies and strength that enable them, driven by survival instincts and the refusal to succumb to fragility and weakness, to reconcile with the traumatic event they experienced. The will to live remains strongest among those whose bodies and souls have been harmed by harsh and violent experiences, such as those who lost their loved ones in moments when they most needed them, or those who have suffered rape, harassment, or various forms of familial and societal violence.

We must understand that after the event has ended, its residues remain trapped in the waters of the soul. A person may feel fear and threat through nightmares, deep depression, or when encountering a place similar to where the incident occurred, or a specific time accompanied by signs that draw attention to the moment of the trauma. Alongside medical treatments, doctors and specialists worldwide recommend practicing meditation and mindfulness exercises as supportive tools for reconciliation with oneself, nature, and society. With consistent practice, feelings of fear, anger, and sadness gradually begin to fade. At this stage, the healing process can be evaluated through some signs, including:

  • The automatic and spontaneous dismissal of any thought that reminds us of the painful event.
  • When painful memories become mere distant and blurred shadows.
  • The disappearance of feelings that we are still under threat or in fear.

Meditations for Trauma Recovery

Tawazon has taken the initiative to be the first in the Middle East to offer meditations specifically designed for trauma recovery. These meditations aim to help practitioners feel comforted and attempt to transform negative thoughts into positive ones, thereby easing the pain of trauma and making the lives of those affected by it calmer, safer, and perhaps more enjoyable over time.
